When you hear about a neighbors house catching on fire it is generally not something you would have suspected to be an issue. Common causes of fires are appliances, dryer vents, or improperly used and installed electrical devices.

All of the above listed causes of common house fires can however be prevented. Here are few things you can do to prevent a common house fire happening to your home. Make sure appliances are used properly and not plugged in continually. When you are finished using an appliance properly unplug it, store it, and then it is ready to use the next time you need it.

Once a year you should have your vents and ducts cleaned by a professional company. When they come out be sure to ask if the dryer vent is included in the cleaning. If the company does not include the dryer vent in the cleaning you can usually add it on for an additional cost, this is more than worth the money.

Finally we have come to the improperly installed electrical devices. When you are have something installed or moved make sure you are using a licensed and insured company to do any work at your home. This will ensure if anything goes wrong during the warranty period you will be covered through their insurance as well as you homeowners insurance.
