Mold On The Ceiling of an Office

Helpful Hints to Identify Mold and to Understand Moisture

If your business has sustained some sort of water damage, you could be looking at an outcropping of mold as well. Commercial mold damage in Flagler Beach needs to be taken care of right away, as mold can cause health effects for your employees and also your clients.

Identifying Mold

Mold is all over. A type of fungus which grows from tiny spots what float in the air, it can grow just about anywhere the spores land and find moisture and a temperature that is comfortable. The temperature is somewhere between forty and one hundred degrees Fahrenheit and usually includes just about any damp place inside your commercial building.

You can spot the most obvious kind of mold, mildew, quite easily. It starts out as tiny spots that are black but many times grow into bigger colonies. The black stuff will stain grout lines, grow on walls which are damp, and on outdoor surfaces like painted siding or deck boards, especially in areas which are shady and damp. A surface which is mildewed is many times hard to distinguish from one that is dirty. You can test for mildew by just dabbing a few drops of regular bleach on the area that is blackened. If it lightens up after a minute or two, mildew is present. If it stays dark, it is likely just dirt.

A surface mold, mildew will not likely do any damage to the structure of your building. Other kinds of mold, however, can cause rot. Use a screwdriver or other sharp tool to probe the area suspected to have mold. If the wood crumbles or is soft, the fungi may have taken hold and begun to rot the wood.

For a mold with a high concentration, you might be able to smell it. If you can smell a musty odor, look for mold on damp walls, damp carpeting, wet wood under your flooring, damp crawlspaces, wet roof sheeting and other areas that are damp. When you smell that musty odor, it is an excellent idea to have a professional mold remediation company clean these Flagler Beach mold damaged areas up right away before they get worse.

Understanding Moisture

You will have to do more than look at what is visibly growing on the walls or in a corner of your commercial building to assess mold growth. It can be an invisible intruder, growing around and behind what you can see at first. Understand first that behind all mold growth is a moisture or water problem. That is why you need a professional company to come in and find where all the moisture is and is coming from so that it can be eradicated correctly and stop any more growth from forming. You want to end all mold growth, not just what is visible right away.

You’ll want the professionals because they will have all the experience and equipment which is necessary to find all of the mold and to rectify the problem quickly and safely. They’ll also have all the protective gear that they need so that while the technicians are working on remediating your building, they are protected.
